Commercial Ground Source Heat Pumps - Heating and Cooling

Ground Source Heat Pumps make use of renewable energy stored in the ground to provide one of the most energy-efficient ways of heating buildings. They are suitable for a wide variety of building types and are particularly appropriate for ‘Low Environmental Impact Projects’.

Ground Source Heat Pumps are one of the most efficient ways of providing heating or cooling to any property but are more suited to new build properties with low heat losses. These low heat losses are achieved through high levels of insulation as required by ‘Part L Building Regulations’.

Ground Source Heat Pumps work hand in hand with wet underfloor heating systems due to their low operational temperature so are ideally suited to new builds.

Ground Source Heat Pump systems can be retro-fitted into existing properties but careful consideration must be given to reduce the heat losses and the installation of a wet under floor heating system.

How do they work?

A Ground Source Heat Pump circulates a mixture of water and anti-freeze around a pipe buried horizontally into the ground. This circulating liquid absorbs low temperature heat from the ground. The Ground Source Heat Pump only requires an increase in the temperature of the water mix of just a few degrees.

The circulating liquid is then put through a heat exchanger system where the temperature can reach between 45°C and 65°C. The resultant hot water then feeds an under-floor heating system, radiators and the domestic hot water tank.

The length of the ground loop depends on the size of the Ground Source Heat Pump required for your premises and the amount of heat you need. If there is not enough horizontal space at the property a vertical loop can be installed.

When the Ground Source Heat Pump system is reversed the system can cool and discharge the heat from the property back into the ground. Ground Source Heat Pumps make an ideal partner for under floor heating systems underfloor heating systems.
