Home Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Electricity Generation

Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels for electricity micro-generation significantly reduce electricity bills. Excess electricity generated can be exported and sold to the national grid via the 'feed in tariff'.

Geothermie, through our specialist partner, only install the highest quality solar PV panels to suit the UK climate.

  • Solar PV panels are ideally installed on a south facing, unshaded roof to maximise the amount of sun they receive.
  • Alternative installation sites for solar PV panels can be selected. We can discuss compliance with local planning regulations.
  • Geothermie, through our specialist partner, offer a full installation and maintenance service for solar PV electricity micro-generation panels.

Solar PV panels have a typical life span of 20-25 years and will even work on cloudy days.

How do Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Panels work?

Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels work by converting sunlight into direct current (DC) electricity. This electricity is then converted into alternating current (AC) through a DC/AC converter to make it compatible with the electricity supply from the national grid. You then have two sources of electricity, one from the national grid and the other from your solar PV panels electricity micro-generation.

When you generate more electricity than you are using the excess is exported into the national grid. You get paid for the electricity you micro-generate and export.

At night the solar PV panels do not generate electricity so you automatically import electricity from the national grid as normal.
